Sweet Peppers, which are, strictly speaking fruit (as they contain seeds) but are used as a vegetable, are small, upright bushes of varying sizes, with glossy, dark green leaves. The single flowers are an off-white (sometimes purplish) colour, while the stem is densely branched and up to 60cms (24 in) tall. The fruit start green, and ripen to red, orange or yellow.
