Cucumber is the common name for a widely cultivated creeping vine bearing cucumiform fruits and is of the same family as melon. There are numerous varieties for cultivation, F1 varieties have been developed that have all female flowers, and none of the male ones; this negates the need to remove all male flowers which would otherwise result in bitter fruits.
